Nashville - Honky Tonk Capital of the World

When I came across $35 tickets to Nashville, you know my answer.  Sure!  Never been there. Let's go see it!

We got Jacob and Aubrie to come along with us over Labor Day.

Not really being big country music aficionados, (except for Aubrie), we didn't really know what to expect.

We started off with a bus overview of the city.

They had games to play while we waited.  This was on a Friday and the middle of the day, so it wasn't busy at all

Like Chicago, Nashville has a river running through the city.  Unlike Chicago, Nashville doesn't really use the riverfront area for very much

We drove through "Honky Tonk" central, which is about a 3 block area of all kinds of honky tonks.  A honky tonk is a "bar with country music"  Remember this pic and notice how many people there are and how clear the sidewalk is

Look at the pool on the top

We made our way to the Lane Auto Museum which has extremely unique cars you can't find anywhere else.  Each car has been restored and is drivable.  They often use several of them in parades to keep the cars in working order

They recently acquired this huge army transport which they are restoring

Night is when Nashville comes alive.  And everything revolves around country music mixed with a hefty thirst for "partying".  These pedal drinking cars were everywhere and most of them were full!  One would pass by about every 30 seconds.  Or maybe you like the party bus instead, where you learn to line dance (and drink), or maybe the party bikes...or party boat....or party tractor pull (yep, it's there too), or the party walk.....or the party....well, you get the idea.  Several times we heard the bachelorette party capital of the world is Nashville

Here's one of the Party Bus:

Or maybe you'll want to hop on the party tractor - this one was just getting started, so not too many on it:

And of course, pedal and drink:

Look!  Buy one pair get TWO free!!!  One pair started at $350, but most were around $450

We happened along this very yummy store with all kinds of treats.  They had the BEST caramel pecan thingys that were so amazing they just melted in your mouth!

Every "honky tonk" has live music and open windows so as you're walking along the sidewalk and street, you can see and hear what's going on inside.  It makes for a VERY loud stroll down the block.  But very interesting and lots of people watching.  You just pick one and go in, listen a bit, (and of course drink a lot), then go to another one you like

Remember that other pic that I said to look at?  And how empty it looked?  Here's the same area at night.  The streets are closed to cars and even then, very difficult to walk.  SO. MANY. PEOPLE!  Take a Disneyland parade just getting over and x4 of people all walking everywhere

Look at these two videos:

The next day we went to Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.  It was beautiful!

Squint your eyes and see if you can see the hidden message

We then went to Centennial Park, where there is an exact to-scale replica of the Parthenon in Greece.  This was originally built in 1897 for Tennessee's Centennial Celebration.

Inside is a full to-scale replica of Athena as it was in Greece as well.  It's 42 feet tall!  It's huge!

After a little nap, we went back to the downtown area at sunset,  and walked across the river one of the largest pedestrian bridges in the world

They started building a roller coaster here, but apparently ran out of money

Sunset along the river:

Oh Hey!  Look at this!  A party bus!

On our last day, we drove to a small little town in rolling hills, called Franklin.  The area is so peaceful, green and beautiful
They have a sign scavenger hunt in the town, so we found a few of them

We had a great trip to Nashville!  We were glad to have gone and visited!
