Southern Utah - Kolob Canyon

We wanted to stretch this vacation out as long as possible!  There is so much to see in Southern Utah!  Just need to visit in spring and fall when it's not so hot.

On the way home, we stopped at Kolob Canyon - which is considered part of Zion National Park, but you can't get to this section from the other section.  This part is right off the freeway, hidden about 2 miles off the freeway behind a small mountain.  You wouldn't even know this was here.  It's pretty small compared to the rest of Zions, and it's only a 5 mile scenic drive.  Very few hikes, and no camping.  We went on two short hikes and it was beautiful.  It was VERY uncrowded, and we went on a Saturday!  The main Zions park gets about 5000 cars visiting A DAY!  This part however, was saw maybe 12. No shuttles needed here.

The pics didn't turn out very good because it was so sunny, and the sun was on the mountains and so bright, it made the camera darken everything.  You will just have to go see it for yourself!

Southern Utah - Kanarraville Falls

Friday, it was time to go home.  We opted to stay in St. George for the night, extending our trip.  About 35 minutes from St. George, on the way home, is a small town about 6 miles off the freeway.  So small, they don't even have a gas station or any stores.  But they do have a very very popular hike.  Not just any hike, this hike is through and in a small river/creek which runs all year long, as it's spring fed and there are two sets of falls in a very impressive slot canyon.

Kanarraville is the town and Kanarraville Falls is the hike - it's about a 6 mile roundtrip hike, with more than half it in the water.  We had heard good things about this hike, and everyone who has been on it, rated it one of their favorites, and a do-not-miss hike.  They weren't lying.

It was beautiful, cool, refreshing and a one of a kind hike.

The hike starts off not too impressive, going into a small canyon.

Very quickly, things get interesting.

And the creek comes into view.

Time to get wet!

This is Jacob's happy face as we enter the slot canyon.

The canyon walls were very impressive!

This is a VERY popular hike, and there is always lots of people. This is the first ladder - one way, so you have to take turns.

This is the water slide. Very small, but tons of people playing on it

2nd ladder - missing the bottom rung and not as good as the first ladder.

This was our turn-around point.

SUPER fun hike!  We were so glad Megan, Corey, Matt & Marissa came with us!  We loved this hike. Two thumbs up!  If you go, make sure to wear comfortable tennis shoes!
