Dimple Dell Hike

Right smack in the middle of Sandy City, is a large regional park of natural land called Dimple Dell.  It's 630 acres with over 15 miles of trails winding down into the "dimple" or gully, and then back up on the bluff.  You'd never know you were in the middle of a big city.

We've never gone to Dimple Dell and needed quick hike before Hannah went to work, so we tried it out!

We did the "West Loop" which was actually on the East side of the park..go figure.  It winded down into the dimple, and ran along a creek, and then back up in a short 1.5 miles.  It was amazing!

We found a few geocaches

Happy 50th Bday Shelley

Well, it's that time in life......Shelley's 50th Bday!

50 is the new 30 now, so it's really not that bad.

Anyhow, it was on Sunday and we had our "normal" dinner with Meghan and family and Marissa and family come over.  What Shelley didn't know, is that I also planned to have extended family all come over after dinner for dessert.

Early in the morning, I got up and put decorations all over the house, including a backdrop for a "photo booth".

After dinner, I laid out tons of cookies, rice krispy squares, and other treats......The table was full.  Shelley didn't notice otherwise she would be wondering why there were so many desserts.

The doorbell rang...and her mom and dad came.....and she was really surprised.....then my sister and family and mom came.....then brothers and sisters....and then we had a house full!

We then watched a video of well wishes (below for your viewing pleasure) and ate desserts and had a good evening!

Happy Birthday Shelley!

Graduation during a Pandemic

2020 was going to be a big year for Hannah, as she was set to graduate from High School.

Senior Sunset
Senior Sunrise
Senior day at Lagoon
Senior Field Day
Senior Day of Excellence
Senior Activity Day
Senior Group Project
Senior Yearbook Stomp and Signing
Senior Awards
Senior Dinner Dance
All  Night Grad Party
Traditional Graduation

None of that happened in 2020 - all cancelled.

The school district however, did a good job trying to celebrate the Seniors in the best way they could, given the situation.

Lawn signs were put up on the lawn of each Senior (close to 700 this year).  Once once school did it, it spread to every school.  They had a drive-by pre-graduation where the seniors got their diploma handed to them by the principal, and they recorded a short video of them for the virtual graduation.  There was a parade of Seniors in their cars going around the neighborhoods.  Individual neighborhoods also got together and did local parades FOR the Seniors to watch.

It was still a very special day for Hannah and she will definitely have memories of her non-traditional graduation.

We went up the canyon for a quick get-away to be with Hannah

We had some Crumbl cookies (Yum)

The neighborhood got together and told all the Seniors to be outside, as they drove by and honked horns, threw candy, etc

Shelley made this balloon bunch to decorate the front door

Time to get dressed

Waiting for the parade to come by

We went to dinner all together before watching the graduation

The graduation was all pre-recorded and the link to it was "released" at a specific time...so you couldn't watch it before

Each school did their virtual graduation differently.  Many other schools we saw do a similar video, but Hannah's school pre-recorded a few seconds of video of each Senior. This was fun to watch as it showed the personality of each person and actually was entertaining to watch!   It was so much faster too!

Here is Hannah's:

At the end of the graduation, each Senior was to stand up and sing the school fight song all together:

Cold Stone Ice Cream cake that Hannah made herself. It was so good!

Can you find her name?

That night the six high schools in the area had fireworks.  From the area we picked, we could see the whole valley, and you could see fireworks from all 6 schools.

When we drove up to the viewpoint, we were surprised to see the missionaries there! ha ha

It was really dark.....somehow, the pics turned out really light

Here is a video of other family members wishing Hannah well on her special day!

Happy Graduation Hannah!  We are proud of you!
