Halloween 08

Well, Halloween came and went, and we all are filled with empty calories and holes in our teeth from all the candy!

We got a double dose this year and the church's "trunk or treat" was a week before Halloween so the kids got a lot of candy from that, and then even more candy on Halloween.  So dad was happy about that! (Really, he was!)

Hannah decided that she didn't want to be the witch for Halloween after all. She tried on three different costumes and finally decided on the princess, which fits her more than a witch does.  Marissa was tinkerbell and Jacob was a race car driver, and Meghan was supergirl. Meghan wouldn't post for a photo, and she hasn't quite learned yet that if she would just pose, the pics would turn out better than when she tries to hide!

We go all out for decorating our house!  You won't believe how good it looks! Here is a shot of it:

Yep that is just about it!  Ok, we had one pumpkin outside that had a light on in it, and a Halloween flag.

Doug was up to his Halloween tricks again this year scaring all the kids coming for candy. He gets into his skeleton costume and sits on the bench really still. Fog machines and strobe lights are going. He doesn't move until the kids get real close and then he moves and yells and startles them!  Most of the time, they walk up and then stop when they get close and stand there trying to determine if it's real or not.

Usually, friends will push their other friends forward first (these are 10-12 year olds. The little kids just stand there and sometimes cry).

There is a really really short video that Meghan took, saying she took a really good video, but something must have happened between the time she took the really good video and the time the video got downloaded because it's really short but it gives you a short glimpse of how it looks.

Here is some of Jacob's and Hannah's candy before their 20% they give to dad. Meghan and Marissa have just as much but wouldn't show it in public because everyone kept eating it.

And our Prop 8 sign finally disappeared after having in our yard for about 4 weeks, which is about 4 weeks longer than we expected it to stay there.  It was there when we went to bed Halloween night, but went to prop sign heaven during the night.

OUCH!!!

Jacob was running at recess and a pole jumped in his way!  Can you imagine a pole doing such a terrible thing?  He was sitting in class and his teacher noticed that he had some blood on his eye and sent him to the office.  The office called Shelley and Jacob still was saying he was fine (he has a high tolerance for pain), but Shelley went and got him anyway.

It kinda hurt his eye. When he went to school the next day, everyone thought he had on makeup! No makeup at all!

Happy Birthday Jacob!

Monday the 27th was Jacob's 9th birthday!

He started off by skipping soccer practice (which he was not too upset about!)  Then we went to Leatherby's and had some of their famous $1.50 pizzas (which really are pretty good!) and fries and our standard ice cream treat we get.

We do change the ice cream just a little bit. We get the Daddy Dave's Banana Split with no banana, we change the ice cream to two sections vanilla and one section Swiss Milk Chocolate, all caramel topping, nuts and hot fudge on the side, and change the whipped cream to the chocolate whipped cream.  It is so good!!  And we can't even eat it all!

It doesn't take long to eat it!

They made Jacob stand up on a chair while everyone in the restaurant sang to him. He was a little embarrassed by it, but he liked it!

Then it was off to Chucke E. Cheeses to play games and we all had fun there.

Then back home to open his presents. He got lots of money from Grandma's and Grandpa's!  He got a watch he has been wanting, and then we did our birthday tradition.

What is our tradition?

Everyone lines up with their legs spread, and the birthday person crawls through our legs while we spank them as they crawl through. The object is for the birthday person to crawl as fast as they can so they get less spankins, but usually those doing the spanking, (the spankers) move with the spankee so the spankers give the spankee more spankins.

Confused? Here are two videos to show you how it works:

I'm Not A Wicked Witch!

Hannah was 'practicing' her costume for Halloween. She wanted to make sure everyone knew that she wasn't a wicked witch, but a nice witch.

She was practicing wearing and using her costume, and even prepared a nice recipe to share with you!

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

It's been a while since we've been to Six Flags since we didn't get season passes last year (we've had them for the past 3 years).  But after a brief hiatus, we decided to get season passes again and the bonus is that they are good for the rest of 2008 and all of 2009 also.  The kids have been taking surveys all year long and they each have enough points from their surveys to turn them into cash which pays for their season passes!

Shelley's brother and his wife, Erick and Melisa, came down to visit us for a few days from Utah. We were so excited to have them come!  We of course, went to Six Flags while they were here. It was "FrightMares" and everything was all halloweenie. (There are some videos on this post, so may take a few extra minutes to load)

Here is Hannah in front of the fountain that was turned into red water and skeletons in it. She liked it!

Hannah was literally standing up on this ride - see her? She is in the back on the right side.. with a mystery boy in between her and Jacob. Also in these pics are Shelley, Meghan (sitting next to Shelley and hidden), Melisa and Erick, Ashley and Dallin (Erick and Melisa's kids) and Marissa. Can you find them? Click the pic to make it bigger.

Doug and Erick could only go on this one once before getting sick. Funny, Doug used to be able to go on this over and over and over.

Hannah and Jacob LOVE the Thrilla Gorilla!  Doug can actually do this twice before he's had enough. Hannah and Jacob scream and scream and since it's enclosed, it is very loud in there!

We saw the Shouka show but sat high enough to not get wet!

We didn't see the walrus or sea lion or dolphin or tiger show. We will save those for next time. We did pet the Sting Ray's though.

The kids did like seeing the camels, giraffes, and lions

Meghan and Marissa were laughing and laughing on the Scatta-Bot ride: I lose them a few times while videoing it, but quickly found them again.

Jacob's Favorite ride is the Boomerang. Last year Dad and Marissa made him go on it. He was crying as we got in the train. But afterwards and ever since, he wants to ride it constantly:

This one has the track above you which is normally pretty good, but this one gives you headaches. You need Tylenol after this one:

Medusa is so fast and so smooth! No jerky corners or anything! Very fun and very nice! One of our favorites!

Vertical Velocity is Doug's and Marissa's favorite!  Meghan for the first time sat in the front and the back! Normally she stays in the middle but she is growing up now and branching out! Hard to see them in the video, but they are in the front.

We had a great day and were so glad Erick and Melisa were able to be there with us!

Too soon, it was time to go home :-(
