Island Meadow Hike

All week was 90-95 degrees and hot....so we were looking forward to a nice morning hike on Saturday..early to avoid the heat..

Well, turns out Saturday was only 55 degrees for the high and light rain all day.....we decided to still go, as the rain was just sprinkling a little here and there......

We headed up American Fork Canyon to Timpooneke Campground where most people start their 9 mile hike up to the top of Mt. Timpanogos, so it's a very popular place.  We weren't going anywhere near the top of Timp - our destination was a trail not even on the map and no signs either - Island Meadow.  A short hike through aspens and pines to a small meadow about 1 mile each way.

It did light rain on us most of the way, but it wasn't too bad, and we didn't have to worry about it being too hot either!  Hannah and her friend Brandon came with us too.

Hannah wanted to take the lead

The leaves were starting to change and it was a beautiful hike

This pic doesn't show it, but it was raining here and you could see the sheets of rain in the valley

We arrived at the meadow and were a little surprised it wasn't green at all....nothing.....but the contrast of colors with the dry meadow still was pretty!

Heading back it started to rain a little more.  Much of the trail was in the trees which provided some protection from the rain

It was a great hike!!  When we got back to the parking lot, there was a large group of hikers who were just getting back from the top of Timp......most start around 1 or 2 am to get to the top for the sunrise....  As they were arriving back down one of them said they were so glad to see the parking lot after 7 hours of hiking back down!
