We spent some time at This Is The Place State Park in the canyon of Salt Lake City where the pioneers came across and when Brigham Young saw the valley, he said "This Is The Place" and he knew it was the final destination of the pioneers.
Also part of This Is The Place is also Old Deseret Village, which is a small town that shows us what life would have been like in the pioneer times.
The kids got to wash clothes and hang them up to dry. They were sure happy we have washers and dryers now!
We go to see and play some of the "games" the pioneer children would have played when they weren't doing chores, which wasn't that often! Meghan got a hang of the stilts really fast!
Marissa and Hannah tried the Hoop Game where you toss a hoop to each other and catch it on a stick.
We all got to make candles and as an added bonus, Dee and Janet, Doug's long lost aunt and uncle (who recently returned from their mission in Nauvoo) were there teaching us candle making.
We even got to pose with Dee and Janet for photos!
Jacob and Hannah got to ride the pony's to see what it would have been like to be a pioneer. Hot...dusty.........bumpy....hmmm.. No Thanks!
Here come's our ride!
