It's All Greek To Me - Stop 6 - Sicily, Italy

Well, actually, this time it's all Italian to me!  This stop was in Italy, on the island of Sicily.  We went to see to picturesque cities with a private tour guide.

First, we drove to Savoca way up in the mountains on extremely curvy and narrow streets, with lots of big tour busses.  Savoca is where the movie Godfather was filmed, which is one of the highlights they like to claim, but the real draw is the beautiful village up in the mountains.

Yeah, there was a geocache here near this sign.

Remember the sign from above - with the geocache?  One of those huge tour busses came around the corner and we had to move so it could get by.  It literally only had inches to spare getting around that corner

We walked around from the "town center" and just explored the area.  Leaving most of the crowds behind, we chose to explore some side roads going up around the village to see what we could find.

Here you can see one small portion of the curvy and narrow road.  It's the only way in/out so chances are pretty good you'll run into busses coming the other way

Here's one of the busses heading down the mountain.  It had to make a 9 point turn to get around this curve, blocking traffic the whole time

Our next stop was to Taormina, a hilltop city near the active volcano Mt. Etna.  Taormina overlooks the ocean on top of big seaside cliffs, and there is a gondola from the town center to take to get down to the beaches.  We walked around the town, took the gondola down to the beach where we had lunch, and enjoyed the afternoon.

These very steep stairs had planks on one side for wheelchairs or wagons or carts.  You'd get going about 150 mph in a wheelchair going down though. They were SO steep!

It was a beautiful and relaxing day!
