Petroglyphs aka Rock Imagery (Oct 2021)

I saw an obscure Facebook post a while back about a land preserve in the area that has one of the highest concentrations of 'rock art' aka petroglyphs now referred to as Rock Imagery in the state and possibly even surrounding states.  And it was less than 5 miles away.  But it wasn't open to the public due to Covid.

Well, they announced a limited amount of tours in October with a max of 10 people for each tour.  The reservations were snapped up in minutes.  I was lucky enough to get one of the tours - the first one in over 18 months actually, so let's go see!

The area is 200 acres bordered by a busy road. an ATV/4-wheeling course and Utah Lake in what looks like a barren wasteland.  It used to be a sheep farm I think, and the land owners, a long long time ago passed it down to family and it's been held by the same family.  They wanted to preserve the area so they created a private preserve.

The tour was 90 minutes and we only saw a fraction of the "pieces" of art.  It was very entertaining to hear the stories of what they believe the Native Americans - the Fremont Indians, over 1000 years ago, were like who lived here.

At first glace, looks like nothing is here

This is the smallest rock art here - a dog or other small animal

They think this is a remnant of a small house/hut

Fall Colors (2021)

Not wanting to let the Fall colors disappear, we went for a little drive from Heber to Park City and snapped these pics:

State Fair (Sept 2021)

It's been a long time since we went to the State Fair, so it was time to try it again.

It was packed!

Our tickets included the state rodeo as well, which was a hootin rootin adventure of fun!

This is all butter!

Nope...didn't go on this ride...but maybe if we hadn't just eaten we would have

The rodeo was a lot of fun.  The mutton bustin was great - where little kids hang on to sheep and ride as long as they can

And of course steer and bronco ridin!

Watch this one to the end.....it's not over when the bull just stops.....

Heber Creeper - Sept 2021

It's been a long time since we rode the "Heber Creeper", and they were offering a family pack deal for some of the last evenings of the season, so we thought, sure!  Let's go.

It's called the Heber Creeper because it starts in Heber and creeps, very very slowly out of Heber and around Deer Creek Reservoir.

We were reminded how slow it really creeps!

It was a fun little trip though!

They had a "shoot out" before the train left

The scenery was amazing!  The sun was setting along the way as well

Coming alongside Deer Creek Reservoir

On the way back the sun was down and it was dark inside the car!
