Lawrence Hall of Science - UC Berkeley

The same trip we went to Point Reyes, we also went to Lawrence Hall of Science at University of California at Berkeley.  It was an amazing place!

UC Berkeley sits up in the hills overlooking the bay area. Here you can see the Golden Gate in the hazy background.

There were so many "hands on" science exhibits to see and do.  There was also a seasonal exhibit there during the time we were there about the Circus. It was all about the circus, and there were things to do and pretend you were part of the circus.

Marissa and Meghan practiced their trapeze skills doing flips and bouncing up and down.

Jacob wasn't tall enough to do the trapeze, so he did the tightrope walking instead.

Here is a vide of Jacob doing it:

After building the tall towers, Jacob loved watching them come crashing down.

Hannah treated us all to a puppet show.

Outside there were water activities, earthquake exhibits, and all kinds of things to do.

The kids loved playing on the life size whale, (above) and the greatly magnified DNA Double Helix (below).

Point Reyes Lighthouse - April 07

The Point Reyes Lighthouse warned mariners off this treacherous stretch of coast from 1870 to 1975. The lighthouse is located far down the cliff in order to be below the high lying fog that often visits this coast. Forged of iron plate and bolted to the rock, it has withstood winds recorded up to 133 mph. Today an automated light station continues to light a point considered to be the most foggy and windy in the United States.

On the day we went, it wasn't foggy at all, but it was windy!

To get down to the lighthouse, you have to walk down 308 steps (and obviously back up them to leave!)

The piece of land that the lighthouse sits on, is on an area of land that sticks out 10 miles from the coastline, which is why it was and is such a dangerous place for ships, especially when it's foggy!

Jacob was on top of the world! And almost blown off the cliff!  Down below we could see a bunch of sea lions just basking in the sun.

Home Sweet Home!
