Camp Floyd

On Labor Day, Camp Floyd in Fairfield had "Camp Floyd Days" - basically a living history day.

Camp Floyd was a US Army Outpost and a Pony Express stop in the mid 1860.  At the time, it was the largest concentration of army troop concentration in the United States.   US President James Buchanan sent the troops there to stop a perceived Mormon rebellion and had a small war that lasted for a year called Buchanan's War.

In the end, the government determined there was no rebellion and no reason to fight anymore.

Anyhow, Camp Floyd is only 10 minutes from our house, and although the sky's were promising thunder and lightning and wind, we thought let's go see..it's just down the road.

We were the only ones there :-(  except for the volunteers and docents.  We felt bad nobody else was there.

He's having the time of his life!
