Over Labor Day in September, we wanted to try a different hike....We ended up going to Box Canyon, which up Nephi Canyon and near the tiny town of Fountain Green.
Box Canyon is a very small canyon, unmarked, and super easy to miss, as the entrance is also blocked by trees, and very very limited parking. Most people just drive right past it.
Armed with the secret directions, we found it with no problems. Box Canyon is actually a small slot canyon, which is where you are surrounded by tall walls of rock and you're at the bottom of the wall.
It was super cool and we loved it! It was one of our most favorite hikes we've been on. We would totally go back there again.
There is a small (just a trickle this time of year) waterfall at the end that you can climb up if you're daring....there is a rope to help guide you. And there were two other parts that required a bit of spelunking, and we were so glad Matt was there (with Marissa) to help us through those parts!
Here we are deciding who was daring enough to try to climb. The ground was super slippery cuz it was wet and covered with moss.
Matt started first.
Then Jacob tried
You go under this big rock that looked like it just fell there wedged in
Jacob & Matt going to hike to the top of the big rock
They made it!
On the way back, we went a few miles up Mt Nebo loop and this was some of the beautiful view
This is Devil's Kitchen - just off Mt Nebo loop. There is a small section of just red rock pillars. It was very cool.
