Never to let something out of the ordinary to go unnoticed, we headed to the 2nd Annual Mermaid & Pirate Parade in Old Sac. What? Never heard of it? Neither did we. And neither did many others, because there were not very many of us there to watch it. And the entire parade was about 10 minutes long. They don’t even close the road for the parade – they just walk down the side of the road. But, it’s only the 2nd year. Each year bigger and better, right?
Maybe you can come next year for the 3rd Annual. It celebrates the start of summer. Legend has it that the mermaids and pirates come out of the Sacramento River and parade down Old Sac in celebration of the warmer weather.
It was quite, uh, interesting!
Of course, since we were in Old Sac, we had to go to Candy Heaven, where remember, you can eat for free out of certain barrels as long as you stay in the store. They were also handing out free chocolate covered crickets, but nobody in our family took up that challenge.
We also stopped in a the Old River City Saloon, where before 9pm, kids can go in and we all enjoyed eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor and 25 cent yummy sarsaparilla's! Yum!
We had fun with the mermaids and walking around looking at the shops.
