River Hike

So we decided to go on another hike near the American River.  This one started on the Western States Trail that goes from Sacramento to Salt Lake City. No, we didn’t hike the entire distance, but it was tempting!

We started above the river, and then reached the river level, following a trail where the tracks used to be for the train that carried limestone from the quarry we hiked to a few weeks ago.  We then hiked up almost as high as the Foresthill Bridge (the one we tossed pumpkins off last Thanksgiving) and then returned to where we started. It was an easy 4 mile or so hike and was beautiful.

This is a footing of an old train bridge no longer there.

Here you can see three bridges – the one we hiked across, (that the train used to use) the next is the one cars cross, and the one at the very top of the photo is the Foresthill Bridge (tallest  bridge in CA)

We skipped rocks in the river…..

Jacob found a geo cache hidden in the tree….

Here we are sitting at the edge of the lake……at least this is where the water level would have been if the Auburn Dam would have been built back in the 80’s.
