Time for a road trip!
We had a wedding, reception, baby to be born, family reunion and taking Marissa to EFY to we combined it all into one trip! We left Thursday after everyone was home from work, drove all night to get to Utah Friday morning the wedding Friday afternoon.
The wedding was in Bountiful and it was a wonderful ceremony.
We then went back to Gma and Gpa’s house where Jake and Hannah quickly found the lawn mower to ride around.
The next morning we were up and on the road again to Idaho for the reception in Twin Falls.
We stopped on the way at Shoshone Falls to look at “Niagra of the West” as it’s called. Water was high this year, so the falls were running good!
We drove past the new temple in Twin Falls, and then on to the reception.
Before the sun went down, we went to Aunt Joyce and Uncle Tommy’s farm in Gooding, Idaho (where Shelley grew up). The kids LOVED the farm! Hannah was so excited to see a real farm.
Here is the view from the house. All the land you can see is part of the farm.
They have dairy cows, potatoes and other crops. The kids rode horses, rode tractors, and everyone’s favorite, rode 4-wheelers.
It was well into the dark (around 10:30pm) when it was finally time to come in. All the cuz’s were there too! We had our family, Shelley’s 2 Sis’s and their family, Gma & Gpa, all spend the night. Aunt Joyce whipped up a true farm dinner. Yeah it was 10:30 pm, but she grilled some extremely yummy burgers, with all the fixins, and we had a huge bbq dinner!
The next morning, we all woke up to a scrumptious farm breakfast of super yummy french toast with homemade butter/caramel/sugar syrup. Oh man, that syrup was so good! With a full belly, we all went to church in Shelley’s old ward, We said goodbuy to Marissa as she was going to EFY at BYU Idaho so this is where we parted and then we drove back to Utah.
I saw on Groupon one day half off the Salt Lake City Pass that gets you into all kinds of activities and places for one price. And of course on Groupon, it’s half off, so I snatched some of them up and we had plenty to do! We didn’t even do everything cuz we ran out of time! But we sure got our $$ worth!
The next day we woke up early and hiked up Mt Timp to the Timpanogos Caves. Last time we were there, Jacob was in Shelley’s belly, so it’s been a while. The hike is 1 1/2 miles, but it seems much longer on the way up!
Here is the trail we had to climb:
Oh wait, that’s not it! Silly me! Here is a pic of the trail – you can see it winding up the mountain side.
Here is some cool coral formations in the cave.
Here is a view from the trail:
We went to Temple Square and saw the sights. Went to Welfare Square and had a very interesting tour behind the scenes. Very eye opening! We took a tour of the Joseph Smith Building (Hotel Utah) and had a yummy lunch at the Beehive House.
We had dinner at our favorite hang out dinner spot! It was SOOOO yummy! Umm Umm Good!
We went to the dino museum at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. It’s the largest dino museum in the country. It’s very cool!
We went to the Sweet’s Candy factory where they make things like Orange and Raspberry Sticks, Cinnamon Bears, Chocolate Covered Raisins, Fruit Pebbles, Chocolate Cinnamon Bears, Dum Dum Pops, and their famous Salt Water Taffy. (They sell truckloads of the salt water taffy at a candy store in Old Sacramento)
Weren’t quite ready in this pic:
Now we are ready for the pic:
It was a very good tour! We walked on the factory floor, just a few feet from actual candies being made. Not behind any glass or in different rooms – right on the floor! We then got samples, yum!
We went to the Planetarium and saw an Imax movie that we enjoyed.
We then went to Olympic Park in Park City and got a guided tour.
We saw kids practicing ski jumping, and then went to the top of the ski jumps and the bobsled tracks. We wanted to take the bobsled out for a run, but didn’t quite have the $60 per person that it required, so we just watched.
Here is the top of the ski jumps and the view from up there:
This is what downtown Salt Lake looked like during the Olympics! We were there this night! It was a very special night!
We went to Snowbird Ski Resort and took the tram up to the top of Hidden Peak. There was still some snow up there, and the kids had fun playing in it.
We went to the Zoo, and then This Is The Place State Park and saw how the pioneers lived.
We visited friends in Eagle Mountain, spent time with family, went to concerts in the park, had BBQ’s, and had a great time. I don’t think the TV was turned on the entire week!
All too soon, it was Saturday morning and time to head home! We picked up Marissa and got in the car. We had another wedding reception to get to Saturday night in Sacramento!
On the road again!

Very cool trip! So glad you included "visited friends in EM" because I was about to yell loudly. Surely that was the highlight! :) Good to see you, my friend.
