Back In The Day . . . . . .

On a nice fall day, not so long ago, we went back…in time….

We went to Old Sac, as we haven’t been there in a while, and we did a scavenger hunt that is there for all to do. It’s really easy, and fun because it takes you around all of Old Sac.

The streets are cool because they are all cobblestoned like this:

The first stop was the Pony Express Stop. This is where the Pony Express ended (or started depending on which way you sent your letter).

We had some yummy caramel apples,

saw some nice buildings, (all of Old Sac has been built up on story because back in the day it flooded all the time. The peeps got tired of all the flooding, so they brought in TONS of dirt and raised all the streets one story, so there is one story beneath the current street level. They just started giving underground tours of this area, but it’s kinda pricey which is why we haven't done it yet)

saw a scary clown in the candy store (the favorite store because you can eat candy from certain bins while you are in the store. The clown is a camera that watched you to make sure you eat out of the correct bins).

One stop on the scavenger hunt was the old schoolhouse.  Jacob and Hannah got to ring the bell…..and ring the bell…..and ring the bell…They must have rang that thing for over a minute straight!  Everyone was wondering what was going on!

We went down by the river and there was a “tall ship” in port – the exact same one we saw last winter and that I blogged about HERE.

Across the river, these two buildings look kinda cool.  The big glass one caught our eye because one side of it was an ad for the Sacramento Kings.

We finished the scavenger hunt and turned in our answers, and the prize we got was a free Sarsaparilla at the ‘River City Saloon’ which advertise that kids are welcome – before 9pm.

Marissa was heard saying, “I always thought bars were scary, but this one is nice!”  The kids liked it because they had free peanuts (in the shell) and you would eat the peanuts and through the shells all over the floor.  The sarsaparilla (weird way to spell it – I guess the first ‘r’ is silent” was very good!

After our Old Sac adventures, we made one more pit stop on the way home at the race track.  We had never been here before, (don’t sound too shocked) and every weekend there is free harness racing in a ‘kid friendly environment’ as the advertising says.

It was very interesting, and we stayed for a few races. The sun was going down and it was getting a little cool and windy, and it was time to go.  No, we didn’t bet on any horses, but it was kinda fun to see them race.
