Last Saturday we went to the new Maidu Indian Museum here in Roseville. They have been building a new big museum to replace the trailer they had been in for years.
It was a very nice museum. We learned that long ago, when the Maidu tribe settled here in Roseville, they had to face many hardships, including the white man forcing the kids to go to schools to learn how to be “un-indianized” meaning they had to forget all their ways, cut their hair, and look and act like the white man. It was not a very nice thing for them. They were being forced to loose all their heritage.
There is a one mile walk around the grounds where the Indians used to live.
There are alot of grinding rocks….
and even a few rocks with petroglyphs in them.
It was a really nice spring like day and we loved being outdoors!
